Maine's sea scallop fishery is a historical staple of our state's culture and economy. N-Virodredge™ is a new tool for scallop harvesters that meets the needs of the fisherman and the sea floor. It also reduces fuel consumption by 25% compared to a traditional dredge, substantially cutting carbon emissions.
Rather than rigid teeth or a dragging bar, the N-Virodredge™ utilizes individually sprung teeth and only bears weight on 2" wide skids. This design drastically reduces disruption of the bottom dwelling marine community. The tines are equipped with height adjustment for depth of seabed penetration beneath the level of the skids, so that optimal catch and minimum damage can be achieved. N-Virodredge™ effectively captures scallops in depressions and reduces by-catch.
