Tim Sheehan

President, co-founder

Tim is the president of Gulf of Maine, Inc. He is a dedicated husband, father, and businessman. Early in his career, Tim started an architectural salvage company, and then moved on to an ecotourism company, Tidal Trails.

Ecotourism was good fun, but it wasn’t enough to keep their growing family going! So, Gulf of Maine, Inc. was born in the year 2000. Tim always was a natural with the outdoors, having grown up in Aroostook County. Gulf of Maine, Inc. allows him to capitalize on this specialty! He collects and sells freshly harvested marine life to labs, schools, supply houses, and direct to customers.

Tim spends a large part of each day out on the beaches, in the mud flats, hanging off floats, and peering into pools and caves to find and learn more about the sea life that lives on the coast of Maine.

It’s worth mentioning that Tim was a school teacher for 8 years before starting his independent ventures. He still enjoys sharing his knowledge about marine biology via his YouTube series as Tidepool Tim!

Amy Sheehan

Co-founder

Since the start of Gulf of Maine, Inc., Amy has been at Tim's side, helping him run their seafood and marine science business. She handles invoicing, follow up calls for customer satisfaction, book-keeping, sales, collecting, advertising, social media, trade shows, scheduling, and cheerleading the gang! Amy has also been growing her Health & Wellness Life Coaching practice over the past few years and has created some healthy lifestyle groups in the community, as well as online, with great success.

Healthy living, food, and lifestyle are definitely her passion! She loves learning about anything that has to do with self awareness and self improvement, and sharing this knowledge with others. This is not only fun, but a great opportunity to keep up her business, interpersonal, and natural "coaching" skills, outside of the home and their personal business.

Her priority remains being 100% there, as mom, for her 4 awesome kids, Dewey, Tucker, Molly, and Finn.

Olivia McCarthy

Operations Director

Olivia handles much of our day to day operations here at Gulf of Maine, Inc. Wherever the action is happening, you’ll find her there; on the boat, the shore, in the greenhouse, or in the office.

Hailing from Rhode Island, Olivia has never roamed far from the salt air. Olivia earned her degree in Environmental Studies at Rhode Island College, and for two years, assisted in studying the breeding ecology of the Saltmarsh Sparrow through the SaltMarsh Sparrow Research Initiative.

Shortly after graduating, Olivia, her husband, and their 3 cats packed up in a camper and moved to Maine (a life- long dream). Much like the essence of the business, she likes to do it all! From the natural sciences, to working on an oyster farm, a flower farm, cooking, paddling, gardening, and now to tending to all aspects of our diverse business at Gulf of Maine, Inc.

“I have really found my place here at Gulf of Maine, Inc. No two days are ever alike. Each day it seems we are working on something new, while continuing to push along are bigger projects.”

Matthew Altvater

Marine Operations Director

Matt joined the team in April of 2024 as Marine Operations Director. As a life-long fisherman, both on shore and at sea, Matt has made a valuable addition to our team.

He has taken the lead on our at-sea scientific collection and seafood side of the business.

With his carpentry background, Matt takes an innovative approach to designing and building the unique equipment and workspaces required for an equally unique business.

For the Summer of 2024, we plan to highlight Matt’s work through our social media platforms and blog posts right here on our website!

… Then there’s the KIDS!

A big thanks to all the kids for helping out with the business — Tidepooling, Clam digging, and seaweeding ever since they could walk!
