Live Rough-Mantled Nudibranch (Onchidoris bilamellata)
This is a wet, live, science specimen.
The Rough-Mantled Nudibranch (Onchidoris bilamellata) is a small but fascinating marine gastropod, known for its textured body and mottled brown-and-white coloration. Found on the undersides of rocks in the lower intertidal zone, this nudibranch is often seen feeding on encrusting bryozoans and other sessile invertebrates. Its raised whitish bumps (tubercles) provide camouflage among barnacles and algae, making it a favorite study species for intertidal ecology and adaptation.
These nudibranchs are collected by hand from the cold coastal waters of Maine and are excellent for marine biology classrooms, aquaria, and behavioral observation studies focused on molluscan anatomy and feeding behavior.
Common Name: Rough-Mantled Nudibranch
Scientific Name: Onchidoris bilamellata
Locations: Undersides of large rocks in the lower intertidal zone
Seasonality: Available year-round
Colors: Brown and black with raised whitish bumps
Size: 1” – 2”
Collected: By hand — gently detached from rocks
Quantity: Sold by the each
Uses: Ideal for aquariums, classroom observation, marine invertebrate studies, and coastal ecology education.
Note: This is a live marine specimen. Natural variations in size, color, and appearance from photos should be expected. If you would like any specimen preserved, please send a request to info@gulfofme.com.
